Liguria and Tuscany - Union Tour di Mondo Travel

1st day:  Departure for Liguria. Arrival in La Spezia, dinner and overnight at the hotel.

2nd day: The Cinque Terre

Breakfast at the hotel.  At 8:45 am meet the guide at the landing stage and departure by scheduled boat for Vernazza. Visit the village with its beautiful church dedicated to Santa Margherita d’Antiochia. Continue by boat to Monterosso and visit of the village. Lunch not included. In the afternoon train to Manarola and visit the village. Return to La Spezia by train. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

3rd day: Lunigiana

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Pontremoli, a crossroads of Apennine roads between the South of Italy, the Po Valley and Northern Europe. During the Middle Ages the ancient Via Francigena passed through this ancient free town which was a stop for pilgrims. Meet with the guide, visit the Piagnaro Castle, a military fortress that defended Pontremoli in the Middle Ages and is now home to the Museum of Stele Statues, a collection of truly fascinating and mysterious prehistoric statues. A walk in the historic center will complete our visit. Lunch in a restaurant, and in the afternoon visit  the Medieval villages of Filattiera, Bagnone and Filetto. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight at the hotel.

4th day: Lerici and Portovenere

Breakfast at the hotel. Meet the guide at the hotel. Departure by bus for Lerici and visit the village which is dominated by the castle that overlooks the sea. Walk through the characteristic alleys to the Oratory of San Rocco, a Baroque jewel. By boat to Portovenere, and a boat excursion to the islands. Lunch is not included. In the afternoon visit the fortified village, a UNESCO Heritage Site, and the beautiful Church of San Pietro. Return to La Spezia by boat. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.


5th day: The marble quarries of Carrara and Sarzana

Breakfast at the hotel. Meet the guide at the hotel. Departure by bus for Carrara and along narrow roads that climb up to the marble quarries. On the guided tour inside an active quarry you will discover the techniques of extracting and processing marble. There is shopping in a marble sales center and time to buy the famous Colonnata lard. Departure by bus for Sarzana. Lunch at a restaurant. In the early afternoon visit the town, the ancient Cathedral of Santa Maria, the Church of Sant’Andrea and the historic center. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

6th day: Naval Museum and departure.

Breakfast at the hotel. Guided tour of the oldest Naval Museum in the world. Departure.
