With its charming old towns, exquisite cuisine, unmissable cultural sites and dazzling landscapes and beaches, it is easy to see why Sicily topped The Telegraph’s recent study as Europe’s greatest island.

Having whittled down 10,000 Mediterranean islands and islets to a shortlist of 50, the UK daily then crunched the data across 28 categories in four main areas: history and culture, natural wonders, weather, and luxuries. And Sicily came out a clear winner with 70.7%, by quite a  margin over second-placed Cyprus which scored 64.7%, while Sardinia, Italy’s largest island, came in third at 64.3%

Sicily has 538 museums, seven World Heritage sites, Europe’s largest active volcano, 334 beaches, 45 PADI-listed dive sites, and 22 Michelin stars across 19 restaurants with “the finest dining in the Med.” And The Telegraph ends on a high note claiming “there is nowhere better than Sicily to fully experience la Dolce Vita.” Well said!

The location of Grado Golf Club is extremely picturesque with the 18-hole, par 72, course overlooking Grado’s romantic lagoon (Friuli Venezia Giulia).

The club has a marina with 200 berths and a restaurant

The course of Grado Golf Club extends over 60 hectares, with dense reed thickets that are the ideal natural habitat for wild herons, swans, flamingos and other fauna typical of the lagoon environment. The 5,746-metre course, the pride and joy of the Primero Estate (Tenuta Primero), includes important accommodation facilities, a marina with more than 200 berths and the elegant Casone Restaurant which is famous for its refined local cuisine.

Challenging greens with large and deep bunkers

The wide greens are often protected by water obstacles and by very large and deep bunkers that make the game even more challenging. The very long and choreographic 12th hole, with a sinuous dogleg to the right and a fancy green situated on a small island, is particularly demanding. There is a well-stocked pro shop, and on the menu in the clubhouse’s Casone Restaurant there are regional specialities and fish dishes accompanied by excellent local wines. There are also ten recently opened Port Suites with wonderful views of the Primero Marina.
