Sicily, Sardinia, Tuscany: Italy's adrenalin-packed trifecta

By Friday, 26 April 2024 11:10

Beyond Italy's iconic landmarks and majestic art-infused cities lies a world of adventure waiting to be explored. From the snow-capped peaks of the Alps to the azure waters of the Mediterranean, Italy is a chequerboard of pulse-pounding activities for adrenaline junkies and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

In a recent survey from Holidu it emerged that, when it comes to adrenaline-fueled escapades Italy’s two largest islands, Sicily and Sardinia, take the biscuit. Sicily in fact leads the list of Italy’s 20 regions with an impressive 203 adventure-packed activities, while Sardinia comes in second, trailing at 77 and closely followed by Tuscany at 76.

At the top of Sicily's adventure list are its 150 off-road and mountain bike trails on scenic and rugged pathways, where adventurous cyclists navigate challenging terrain and breathtaking landscapes on off-road and mountain trails. Parachuting comes in second with 21 sites that offer thrill-seekers the chance to leap from soaring heights and freefall through the sky, and the island also has 15 opportunities for rafting and tubing.

Sardinia and Tuscany then chip in with additional thrills such as kayaking and tree-climbing, rounding out Italy’s high-octane adventure experiences with paddling through rivers, lakes and the ocean, or making gruelling ascensions into forest canopies to overcome the challenges of rope climbing and free climbing. www.holidu.it/casa-vacanze/italia#regioni-avventurose.
