The tours of Sansepolcro’s deconstructed museum and guided tours have resumed, allowing visitors to experience the stories and enter into the history, customs, and traditions of this delightful little Tuscan town. It is also a responsible tourism model with the experience centred on the continuous and increasingly intense interaction between travellers, guests, and citizens.
The Deconstructed Museum
Places, People, and Stories is a project connecting visitors and the local community of Sansepolcro which is known for its extraordinary historical, artistic, and cultural wonders. “Visitors become symbolic guardians of our heritage and traditions as they learn about our secrets from those who have lived its past and live its present." A new approach to responsible tourism that confronts issues regarding the impact of visitors on the environment and host communities.
Tours have started again
The tours run every Saturday up to September 24 with guides leading visitors through the streets and shops of the historic centre and discovering the Civic Museum with the works of Piero della Francesca. In two of the eight participating sites citizens of Sansepolcro open the doors of the Diocesan Archive, the Cathedral’s Bell Tower, the CasermArcheologica headquarters, the Biblioteca della Resistenza Museum, as well as spaces dedicated to lace making and flag-wavers.
An example of responsible tourism
The CasermArcheologica Association conceived the project in this format in 2019 in collaboration with other local associations and the Tourist Office. The Deconstructed Museum has proven to be one of Italy's most significant examples of responsible tourism, earning it the patronage of the Italia Patria della Bellezza Foundation.
Ancient and contemporary art
“As well as the Deconstructed Museum visitors are able to discover the customs, traditions and ancient and contemporary art of our city through its citizens,” said Francesca Mercati, Sansepolcro’s councillor for tourism.
The hotel will be managed by Eurazeo
Edmond de Rothschild allocated € 28.3 million in global loans for the project, acting through his own Edmond de Rothschild European High Yield I Real Estate Debt Fund and another separate fund dedicated to a German insurance group. Grape Hospitality, a pan-European hospitality platform founded in 2016 and controlled by Eurazeo, will manage the hotel. Eurazeo owns, operates, and manages 106 hotels and 70 restaurants in eight countries, totaling over 10,000 rooms, and affiliated through franchising contracts.
Funding completed in Germany, France and the Netherlands
"This transaction marks the first commercial operation of our pan-European fund in Italy, as well as the first in the hospitality sector,” explains Edmond de Rothschild's head of real estate debt, Ralf Kind. “The four previous funding operations we have conducted in Germany, France and the Netherlands demonstrated our team's ability to identify and create compelling businesses across Europe, supported by experienced sponsors and reliable funds. We will continue to intensify our international fundraising activities to grow our pan-European high yield investment fund which is due to close at the end of 2022.”
Bikes, tours and cycle paths are the best way to explore Italy’s Alpine city of Merano. On the saddle of a bike is the most comfortable, healthy and safe way to go, also thanks to the Bike-boxes located around the city that allow you to securely store your bike for free for 24 hours. For those who are curious to discover the territory in all its glory, Sissi Tours offers guided E-Bike tours: the program includes visiting farms and wine tastings and getting to know South Tyrolean culture.
Two exciting cycle trails
The Val Passiria and Val Venosta cycle paths both deserve special mention. The Val Passiria trail is from Merano to San Leonardo in Passiria and has a difference in height of about 370 metres, running for 20 kilometres alongside idyllic orchards, romantic bridges and enchanting villages. The Val Venosta connects Merano to the Resia Pass, is 80 kilometres long and winds along the Adige, following the Via Claudia Augusta.
Bike rentals and mobility scooters
This year's novelty is the innovative and sustainable rental service for e-bikes and mobility scooters from the Merano Thermal Baths whbich, together with their partner Emoby, have created a system for renting electric bicycles and scooters. For mountain bike lovers, the choice is equally vast with many trails at altitudes between 300 and 3000 metres. The hut-to-hut tours, combined with sporting challenges and ending at table with local delicacies, are very popular.
A cable car to 2,000 metres asl
From the city to the crisp air of 2,000 metres above sea level in no time! It only takes 10 minutes by bus to reach the departure point of the cable car and another seven minutes to get to an altitude of 2,000 metres and the Merano2000 ski resort, in the middle of the Avelengo plateau, one of the largest in the South Tyrol. Here you can explore woods and mountains along a network of paths and forest roads, on foot or by bike and there are over ten huts and restaurants where you can relax over the classical dishes typical of the region.

Otranto is a window on the East on the Adriatic seaboard of the Salento peninsula, and is the easternmost town in Italy. In half a day you can visit what is one of the most fascinating towns in Italy. In fact in 2010 it was recognized as a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site and a Messenger of Peace and is in the club of Italy’s Most Beautiful Towns, i Borghi più belli d'Italia.

The Otranto Channel separates Italy from Albania
Founded as a Greek-Messapic and then Roman, Byzantine and later Aragonese town, it developed around the imposing castle and the Norman cathedral. An archiepiscopal see and a major tourist centre, it gave its name to the Otranto Channel that separates Italy from Albania, and to the Terra d'Otranto, an ancient district of the Kingdom of Naples.

Cobbled streets and stately homes
The first things that catches the traveller's eye are the white houses dominated by the grandeur of the castle, which now houses the old town, and the turquoise sea, which is one of the most transparent in Italy. Through the Porta Terra gate you enter the citadel where a small triangular square precedes the Porta Alfonsina gate leading into the centre's narrow streets. These are cobbled and dotted with workshops and boutiques selling local crafts and other products. There are a number of stately homes such as the Lope Palace, which is the Diocesan Museum, and the Moors' Palace on the ramparts of the Ferdinandea Fortress.
The cathedral has largest floor mosaic
Climbing up the town you come to the castle where contemporary art exhibitions are held, and then the cathedral which has Europe's largest floor mosaic. This extraordinary Romanesque work is almost 900 years old and has the famous tree of life in the centre, its branches filled with biblical, angelic, demonic and monstrous figures.

The Salento’s unspoiled coast
In recent years Otranto has become one of the most sought-after destinations in Apulia, thanks to the beauty of its coastline and the clarity of its waters, making it a popular choice for holidays in contact with nature. The Baia dei Turchi is one of the best beaches, and as it is one of the last unspoiled corners of the Salento Adriatic coast, it is most certainly worth a visit.
Food and wine tastings and fun events
The B is an urban bistro and a well-known Florentine haunt in the garden of the historic building. It is open every day from morning for breakfast until late at night for fun events, exhibitions and wine and food tastings. Among the experiences are those linked to gin and juniper berries (of which Tuscany is a quality producer), as well as to events inspired by other emotions and flavours of Tuscany. The Allegroitalia group reconfirms and gladly entrusts the management of the property to the young Apulian manager Stefania Puliafito.
The 17th-century palace has undergone two makeovers
Located between Piazza del Popolo and Piazza di Spagna, in the street that gives the Palazzo its name, the hotel is the result of the conversion of a 17th-century palace which underwent a makeover in 1968 by the architect Luigi Moretti and was renovated again in 2020 by the interior design studios Fausta Gaetani Design and Moi Architetti. When it opens, it will have 78 rooms and suites and a restaurant.
“The focus will be on Italy’s art, history and culture”
"The intent is not only to give the city a new landmark with a building of great value, but also to present a new style of hotellerie focusing on Italy’s art, history and culture - explains Palazzo Ripetta’s CEO, Giacomo Crisci.- We want our guests to experience a unique and exclusive stay. That is why we have selected only the highest quality Italian materials and products; but even more so it will be our staff that will make the difference.”
