Morbegno in Cantina, one of the most important food and wine events in Valtellina, Lombardy, returns this autumn.
Visits to cellars, historic buildings and cloisters
On three weekends, from 25 to 27 September, 2 to 4 October and 9 to 11 October, the event takes visitors on a journey through Morbegno’s hidden heritage, with visits to centuries-old wine cellars, historic buildings, cloisters and local wines. The event, which welcomes thousands of visitors every year, combines wine and local produce tastings with the culture and historic sites of Valtellina, showcasing cellars, courtyards and inner courtyards as spaces where wine, the local area and heritage come together.

Nebbiolo is the most famous local wine
Valtellina is one of the very few places in the world where wine is grown on steep slopes. Its vineyards, in fact, stretch across sheer terraces, with slopes exceeding a 30% gradient. The itinerary, which winds through the historic centre of the medieval town, involves fifty historic wineries and features tastings centred on the region’s flagship grape variety: Nebbiolo, known locally as Chiavennasca.

Engaging tours for families and children
Every weekend, visitors can choose from four themed tasting itineraries from tasting tours that take visitors through the historic Palazzo Malacrida, the Cloister of Sant’Antonio and the cellars of the historic centre to tour that pair Valtellina Superiore and Riserve wines with the region’s organic wines. There is also a tour that alternates between white and rose wines and a new itinerary dedicated to those who do not drink wine, in which the variety of herbal infusions, artisanal juices and non-alcoholic fermented drinks on offer showcases the region through other flavours. Morbegno in Cantina is also for families and young people, taking children on a journey of discovery through Palazzo Malacrida via engaging tours designed to introduce them to art, history and the local area.
