This is a record operation, which also includes increased frequencies on another 14 routes, a total of 4 aircraft based (for an investment of $400 million), a growth in traffic to 1.8 million passengers and support for over 1,700 local jobs. “Ryanair has been operating in Calabria since 2000, and opened its first base in Lamezia in 2013,” says Fabrizio Francioni, head of communications Italy for the Irish low-fare airline.
300 new jobs for the Calabria region
“Ryanair's long-term commitment to Calabria and Lamezia is also supported by the company's first maintenance facility in Southern Italy at Lamezia airport, which will see Ryanair invest a further €15 million in Lamezia and create 300 jobs for the Calabria region, including engineers, mechanics and support staff. President Occhiuto's decision to eliminate the municipal surtax has unlocked the region's full tourism potential, allowing Ryanair to achieve accelerated growth, including a 50% increase in traffic."
“Political choices that make Calabria increasingly attractive and connected”
Marco Franchini, CEO of Sacal Spa noted how “the arrival of the second aircraft based in Lamezia and the announcement of 13 new routes represent a fundamental step in the growth path we are building with Ryanair. This important investment further strengthens the strategic role of Lamezia Terme airport as a hub in Southern Italy and testifies to the effectiveness of the structural and political choices introduced to make Calabria increasingly attractive and connected.”
