On 22 May, United Airlines launched its new seasonal New York Newark-Palermo putting Sicily back at the centre of long-haul.
By summer 2025 United will operate 14 daily US-Italy flights
Operating this route three times a week United will be the only US airline to offer non-stop service between the US and Palermo, and by summer 2025 will operate up to 14 non-stop daily services between the United States and Italy. “Our new non-stop flight offers even more choice to our customers in Italy, who can now benefit not only from direct flights to Palermo from New York/Newark, but also from seamless connections via our New York/Newark hub to over 55 destinations throughout the Americas,” said Thorsten Lettnin, the carrier's director of sales for Continental Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Israel and India.

The new seasonal Washington-Venice took off on 23 May
The new Palermo-Newark joins United's existing routes between Italy and the United States: daily year-round service to Rome and Milan from New York Newark, year-round service to Rome from Washington D.C., as well as seasonal flights to Rome from Chicago O'Hare, Denver and San Francisco, to Milan from Chicago O'Hare, Naples from New York Newark and Venice from New York Newark, which resumed three weeks earlier than last year and will operate for an extended season until 18 December 2025, almost two months longer than in 2024. The airline is also launching a new seasonal route to Venice from Washington D.C., which took off on 23 May.
