Rocco Forte to open Palazzo Castelluccio in Noto in 2026

By Tuesday, 22 October 2024 10:06

Palazzo Castelluccio, to open in Noto in 2026, will be the third property in Sicily for the Rocco Forte Group.

The interiors will be by Olga Polizzi

When it opens in 2026, the new property will feature 31 rooms, a restaurant, bar, meeting and event spaces, a spa, gym and garden. This 5,000 sqm property will complement the company's two existing facilities in the region: the Villa Igiea in Palermo and the Verdura Resort in Sciacca. Taking care of the interiors, as was already the case for Rocco Forte House Milan, will be the group's vice-president and design director, Olga Polizzi, in collaboration with architects Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen.

Made from local limestone which turns a honeyed gold

Located in the heart of the city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Palazzo Castelluccio is one of the largest noble residences in the Val di Noto. Built in 1782 by the Marquis of Lorenzo del Castelluccio, it was one of the most important buildings to be rebuilt 100 years after the catastrophic earthquake of 1,693 in which most of the city was tragically destroyed. In line with the new architectural style of the time, it was made of compacted local limestone, which turns a golden honey-coloured glow when struck by sunlight.

Rocco Forte to open four new hotels in three years

Unlike the predominantly Baroque architecture that dominates Noto, Palazzo Castelluccio is neoclassical in style and originally had 105 rooms, including a music room, a chapel and a ballroom. The Sicilian new entry is part of four new Rocco Forte openings planned over the next three years in Milan, Sardinia and Naples.
