Portrait Milano, one of the most recent and exciting additions to luxury hospitality in Milan, will soon be unveiling its brand-new wellness centre, the Longevity Spa.

An enlightened spa brand

The Longevity Spa is powered by one of the most advanced European biohacking and anti-age city clinics, The Longevity Suite.  This enlightened brand, born from the work of more than 20 years of research by the team of Dr. Massimo Gualerz, promotes integrated, high-performance, high-tech protocols that guide clients towards personal wellbeing through a perfect balance of health, conscious beauty, and mental energy.

In the heart of Milan’s fashion district

Portrait Milano, part of the Ferragamo-owned Lungarno Collection, is located in one of Milan’s most fascinating secret spaces, the former Archiepiscopal Seminary, Europe’s oldest, and the world’s second largest, seminary. Accessed through an ornate Baroque gateway, the 5-star overlooks the city’s Piazza del Quadrilatero, which, at 32,000 square feet,  is the largest public square in Milan’s famous fashion district.

Trapani and its province, which has luxury properties like Hotel Baglio Oneto dei Principi di San Lorenzo, could become one of Italy’s next UNESCO heritage sites.

Making Trapani and its province a year-round destination

trapaniTrapani

The local Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with Unioncamere Sicilia and Logos, has put forward the idea of the UNESCO candidacy, which is certainly ambitious, although the area has much to offer.  In recent years, in particular in 2023, the tourist season for the town and the province of Trapani was an extraordinarily long one, lasting right up to November. The theory therefore is that it is possible to offer visitors a year-round welcome, creating experiences, organizing exhibitions and programmes that would showcase Trapani in all four seasons.

“Our resort is for the conscious traveller”

"We are absolutely in tune with this proposal,-  says Anna Palmeri, owner of Baglio Oneto dei Principi di San Lorenzo, the 5-star luxury wine resort. - We have always gone beyond the idea of a simple seaside holiday in Sicily. Our resort is for the conscious traveller seeking authentic experiences, who wants to discover the area by savoring it in detail. The Trapani area is of extraordinary historical, artistic and archaeological interest, even though it is not as well-known as other parts of Sicily. The test will be 2025, with two events: Sicily as a European destination for food and wine, and Agrigento as the Italian capital of culture.”

All Nippon Airways (ANA) has confirmed the commencement of direct flights between Tokyo Haneda and Milan Malpensa in winter 2024-2025.

Boosting European routes and frequencies

In the fiscal year 2024-2025 ANA plans to introduce three new routes connecting Tokyo with three European cities (Milan, Stockholm, and Istanbul) and will also reinstate or expand services on existing routes. This strategic move aligns with the renewed demand for travel in Japan following the pandemic. With the resumption of services between Tokyo Haneda and Vienna in August, the total count of ANA's European routes will increase to nine from the current five, and additional flights to Munich and Paris will be introduced in July.

Committed to resuming international routes

“In the next financial year, the focus of our growth will be on international flights,- said president and CEO Koji Shibata. - We are committed to resuming international routes that were temporarily halted during the pandemic and launching flights to new destinations. With the inclusion of AirJapan, we now boast three distinct brands, providing passengers with diverse options to meet their travel requirements.”

Pesaro, designated the Italian Capital of Culture 2024, has embarked on a journey that will involve the entire province throughout the year.

Together with its citizens, artists, professionals, inhabitants, associations, tourists and stakeholders, the final objective is the transformation of unconscious identity into cultural heritage. This will be achieved through a participatory process based on an idea of widespread, inclusive culture in dialogue with the environment. Daniele Vimini, Pesaro’s deputy mayor and councillor for beauty emphasized that the calendar does not just represent a succession of events but serves as a focal point for the valorization of each of the province’s 50 municipalities.

In addition to the city of Pesaro, the rich calendar of events features the 50x50 Capitals Squared project, involving the 50 municipalities in the province of Pesaro and Urbino that stretch from the Apennine mountain range to the Adriatic Sea. Each of these municipalities in turn will be Capital for one week during the year. The 12-month programme, which started in January with the Medieval town of Vallefoglia and ends in December in Montegrimano Terme, involves hundreds of administrators, artists and creatives. Urbino's councillor for tourism Roberto Cioppi (week 9-15 December) stressed that Urbino will join Pesaro 2024 by focusing on the enormous intangible heritage of its landscapes. For the municipality of Fossombrone (week 6-12 May) councillor Maria Silvia Nocelli said the entire community will participate with its annual Triumph of Carnival celebrations.

Italy is suffering from a new and disturbing ailment: the Instagram-ization of travel. Last year this global phenomenon was aided and abetted by the White Lotus television series which was set in Portofino. The little town’s popularity soared to such levels that the mayor had to pass a law fining tourists up to $303 for "lingering" to take selfies at some of the best Instagram spots.

As destinations scrambled to cope with crowds that threatened to engulf them, Italy hit a new record of 445 million visitors, and new regulations were introduced to combat overtourism, which is increasingly Instagram-driven. On the little islands of Lampedusa and Linosa, located between Sicily and North Africa, and on Procida in the Gulf of Naples, private tourist vehicles were banned.

In an earlier editorial we commented on how Venice - which last year attracted a staggering 68 million visitors – is introducing a day-tripper entrance fee and banning groups of over 25.  Sardinia too took stern measures last summer, limiting numbers on some of its most gorgeous beaches by forcing holidaymakers to make reservations. And - horror of horrors - making them pay in advance for their place in the sun.
