Enjoy Prepotto: the new frontier of wine tourism

In Prepotto, in the province of Udine, 13 local wineries are networking to bring new life to their area, offering an integrated range of tourist services.

Their new dedicated portal features guided tastings, restaurants and B&Bs, nature excursions, e-bike tours, cooking courses and yoga classes. 

A little corner of paradise nestled in the hills 

Surrounded by rivers, mountains and lush forests, Prepotto is a small municipality in the province of Udine, located in the far north-east of Italy, bordering Slovenia for 15 km. Just six kilometres from Cividale and 25 from Udine this border municipality is a popular nature destination for hikers and cycle tourists from all over Europe.

“We want to create a single market place for planning visits to our area” 

"Our mission is to offer visitors an authentic and distinctive welcome, ours is a unique border location with history, culture, and cuisine, where nature invites you to embrace a more sincere lifestyle,” explains Caterina Cossio of Agriturismo Scribano, one of the promoters of the project. "The idea stems from the desire to gather and unite all the opportunities offered by this special region and by our companies, creating a single market place through which it is possible to freely plan visits to our area, be it a weekend or even just an afternoon of relaxation, taste and fun," adds Riccardo Caliari of Spolert Winery. 

The home of Schioppettino di Prepotto and Cialla 

Prepotto is the home of Schioppettino di Prepotto and Cialla, one of Friuli-Venezia Giulia's most prestigious indigenous red grape varieties. 'The production of Schioppettino wine is inextricably linked to the tradition of this area,” explains Cossio. " It is a wine par excellence that goes well with the typical dishes of our border cuisine, derived from the Friulian, Slavic and Austro-Hungarian gastronomic traditions.
