Courtyard by Marriott Rome Central Park has obtained the international Green Key certification, a prestigious recognition for sustainability.
“Benefitting the environment and supporting local communities”
The recognition embraces the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Growth, and general manager Antonella Ferro says:
“We live in an interconnected global community whose survival will depend on actions taken today. Tourism produces 8% of the world's greenhouse gases. In the hotel and events’ world, the process towards sustainability has finally begun, with concrete initiatives that benefit the environment and support local communities.”
The 5 P's: people, planet, prosperity, peace, partnership
Courtyard by Marriott Rome Central Park, embracing the Marriott philosophy, had already launched its own environmental and social sustainability policy, with the arrival of the Green Key certification a further important driver. The essential elements of the 2030 Agenda can be grouped into five basic principles, the 5 P's: people, planet, prosperity, peace, partnership.
Reducing water use and using green energy
“For each of these basic principles, we created short, medium and long-term goals under the direction and guidance of Marriott and the Green Key Team,- says, director of operations and project coordinator Antonio De Santis. - We have formed an internal green team that constantly monitors sustainability standards in our different departments.” Important results, he added, have been achieved to date in energy savings through cogeneration plants and the reduction of unnecessary water flows, with the energy used by the hotel now certified as green.
