The summer of 2025 will be multifaceted for WestJet, which is returning to the skies of Rome with flights from Canada.

WestJet is focusing on long-haul destinations

This return is part of the airline’s strategy focusing on domestic and long-haul international connections “in response to changing market dynamics, which have prompted all Canadian carriers to make changes to their networks and reconsider their passenger capacity plans.” A clear reference to the decline in demand for cross-border travel to the United States from Canada.

Over 90 destinations in Canada, the US and beyond

Since the beginning of April the airline has resumed flights to Rome Fiumicino with direct services from Calgary, which will operate until 16 November, again with the B787 configured in business, premium, economy comfort and economy classes. From the Calgary hub, Italian passengers then have connecting flights to over 90 destinations in Canada, the United States and beyond. And this year, the Canadian airline has also started offering free high-speed internet access to passengers.

As part of the vast 2025 Jubilee Plan for the redevelopment of Rome's cultural and urban heritage, the Cammini verso Roma (Paths to Rome) project has been launched.

A walking journey from Velletri to St. Peter’s

Funded by the 2025 Jubilee Commission and managed by Zètema, at the heart of the initiative is slow tourism as a tool for urban regeneration, cultural enhancement and sustainable development. In this context, an exclusive event will take place from 20 to 24 May 2025: a Media & Content Creator Journey along the last stages of three historic routes – the Via Francigena del Nord, the Via di Francesco and the Via Francigena del Sud – from Castel Gandolfo to Velletri in the direction of Rome, through protected areas and footpaths to reach St. Peter's. This journey is organized and managed by SloWays, a leading Italian tour operator for major Italian and European walking routes.

A more authentic, sustainable and human side of Rome

The group on the Journey will consist of 15 Italian and international journalists and content creators, selected to showcase a new, more authentic, sustainable and human side of the capital. The days will be marked by the slow pace of walking, enriched by visits to authentic villages, minor cultural sites, meetings with local communities and tastings in collaboration with local producers.

Iconic places in lesser-known Rome

The route will pass through green landscapes, little-known sections of the historical and artistic heritage and distinctive neighbourhoods off the traditional tourist beaten track. The programme offers a new and integrated vision of Rome, where contemporary architecture, art, religion, food and wine, and nature coexist in harmony. The itinerary also includes iconic places in lesser-known Rome: Zaha Hadid's Maqxxi, Renzo Piano's Auditorium Parco della Musica, and the neighbourhoods that symbolise neorealist cinema.

cammini 2

A dedicated portal with events and maps

The goal is clear: to offer a model of cultural and experiential tourism that focuses on environmental and socio-economic sustainability. With this in mind, the portal www.camminiversoroma.it has also been created, bringing together events, suggestions, maps and cultural content to accompany travellers and pilgrims on their journey of discovery in Rome.

The Jumeirah Capri Palace has five new suites designed by architect Patricia Urquiola.

The hotel is the essence of a relaxed lifestyle

Overlooking the Gulf of Naples and the hotel's elegant swimming pool, the five new suites are designed with each space reflecting the essence of Capri and the beauty of a slow, relaxed lifestyle. Urquiola's restyling goes beyond the suites, conveying the same sense of belonging to the bar and pool area. Inspired by the idyllic island landscape, Urquiola worked with a colour palette that ranges from warm terracotta to soft whites to deep blues. Custom-made furniture complements the suites with handmade Vietri tiles used for plinths, walls, floors and furniture, celebrating traditional  local craftsmanship.

The garden and terrace also have new look

Extending her poetic vision beyond the newly opened suites, Patricia Urquiola has also reinterpreted the hotel's outdoor spaces, framing them as a refined sanctuary of Mediterranean beauty. A lush Capri garden now frames the Bar degli Artisti poolside bar and the terrace. Light dances on textured surfaces, organic shapes recall the coastline and ceramic clad structures pay homage to local craftsmanship. With a careful combination of materials, from rattan to glazed terracotta, as well as customized marble furnishings that recall Villa San Michele, the result is a timeless celebration of Capri’s life.

“Honouring the spirit of Capri”

“For the renovation of the suites, pool area and outdoor bar of the Jumeirah Capri Palace, I wanted to pay homage to the soul of Anacapri,- says architect Patricia Urquiola, -its luminous essence, organic elegance and layered history. Each suite is conceived as a serene microcosm, where tactile materials, natural light and fluid forms evoke comfort and Mediterranean sophistication, creating a continuous relationship between interior and exterior. The pool area and outdoor bar deepen this dialogue, merging architecture and landscape and offering guests a moment suspended between sea and sky. This project wanted to honour the spirit of the place, while creating new memories through its design.”
