Grottaglie, in Puglia, is once again the capital of contemporary ceramics with the XXXII edition of the Mediterraneo Contemporary Ceramics Competition from 12 July to 12 October 2025.
An event with 73 works by ceramic artists
Every year this event transforms the city in the province of Taranto - which is less than half an hour away by car - into a crossroads of artistic languages, creative visions and distant cultures, all united by the same material: ceramics. This year there will be 73 works on show in the Castello Episcopio, selected from 362 entries received from 236 ceramic artists from the four corners of the world.
The Ceramic District has over 70 artisan workshops
The competition is a bridge between past and future, between ancient knowledge and contemporary experimentation. Grottaglie, with its extraordinary Quartiere delle Ceramiche district is a living workshop with over seventy artisan workshops. Grottaglie is the only Italian town with an entire urban district dedicated to ceramic production and is an extraordinary example of cultural continuity.
The winning entries will receive money prizes
Three prizes will be awarded during the opening evening of 12 July and the competition, promoted by the Grottaglie Municipality Culture Department, is organized in collaboration with the Tourist Info Point managed by the Imago Cooperative and has the patronage of the Puglia Region and other local players.
