The renovation of Genoa airport is progressing at full speed, with the opeing of a new Rent-a-Car area.
The Rent-a-car companies are now closer to the car parks
The new area is the result of a €12.6 million investment that will make the Colombo an entirely modernized airport by 2026. In the last few days, the new area dedicated to car rental on the arrivals floor of the air terminal went into operation. On some 300 sqm, it is a modern and bright common waiting room, with seats and flight information, with nine rent-a-car company desks. Moving the rent-a-car companies to the new hall, closer to the car parks, will allow the current arrivals area to be expanded and refurbished, providing more space for passengers and related services.
A new VIP lounge for departing passengers
The construction of the new hall is the first of the next steps in the modernization of the current terminal, which will include: by the end of March 2026, new bar/restaurant points, located respectively on the departures floor - check-in area - and in the domestic/commuter boarding lounges, as well as the opening of the new VIP lounge dedicated exclusively to departing passengers on the upper floor and with a panoramic terrace.
New e-gates and waiting areas
By the end of April 2026 the new check-in line in the departures lounge (22), with self-service stations will be ready and by the end of June 2026 the boarding lounges for domestic and EU flights will be completely renovated. It will then be the turn of the international boarding lounges, with the installation of new border control stations, with the new e-gates automatic passport control gates, to speed up boarding procedures. In the course of 2026, the arrivals area will also be upgraded with a new bar and new waiting areas, and the border control area for arrivals, which will also be equipped with e-gates.
