After a restoration that lasted almost eight years, the new Relais & Châteaux Vetera Matera will open on 12 April in the Basilicata’s Sassi region.
Underground rooms and others with Sassi views
The property has 23 rooms, including eight suites, in a complex that embraces different eras, from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, creating an interweaving of styles and vibes. The underground rooms, carved out of the rock, offer an experience of peace and quiet and meditation. In the higher areas, other rooms overlook the Sassi. The restaurant, in an underground room, offers a gastronomic journey to discover the flavours of Basilicata, reinterpreted by chef Eduardo Estatico to enhance the value of local products, and the cellar boasts a wide selection of wines.
The spa offers exclusive treatments
The spa, a wellness retreat carved out of the rock, offers exclusive treatments, including the innovative Zerobody: a patented system that allows guests to experience weightlessness, floating on 400 litres of warm water with a regenerating effect. The panoramic terrace is a privileged stage from which to admire the beauty of the Sassi.
Promoting Matera’s historical and cultural heritage
Vetera Matera is a collaboration between the Bellevue group, which represents a long tradition of hospitality in Sorrento, and an entrepreneur from Matera, driven by his love for his land and the desire to promote its historical and cultural heritage.
